The Golden Rider
created by artist Francois Tapernoux is a near-identical rendering of the original classic Rider-Waite-Smith deck using rich oil paint instead of fine line drawing.
The result is better coloring at the expense of finer details.
For example, there is no snail crawling on the ground near the lady of the Nine of Pentacles.
The cards are best viewed at a distance, somewhat like an Impressionist painting. Tapernoux appears to have been trying to create a gestalt for each card and to convey the feeling tone of the cards with his dramatic choice of colors.
